An original oil painting on gesso primed canvas.
The painting was created using a single palette knife. My most recent work, the Seaside series ( Staithes predominantly) is executed using only a palette knife. From the seaside paintings, this is the only one created using a reference photograph. Although worked up from a photograph, this image is by no means a literal transfer into paint. I believe that the photograph should always be the slave to the Artist, not the other way around.
I was very touched by the humanity of the subject matter, we all need to take a break so to speak, from our daily hectic lives. Another thing which I was struck by was the bus, the sense of arriving at or leaving a place visited, this can sometimes leave us feeling very excited and optimistic, or quite the opposite.
